grown-up version of
fuchsia and pink," says
LA-based interior
designer Erinn
Valencich. Used as an
accent, the color adds
excitement. As a wall
color, "it’s a nice update
to the deeper, darker
traditional reds we’ve
seen in the past."
HIDDEN TRAIT
Although large doses of
this hue make a loud
statement, many
people find it soothing
because of its muted
purple undercurrent,
Valencich says.
BASE LAYER If you
want to use this color
on the wall, make sure
everything else is
neutral, Valencich says.
Otherwise the overall
effect can be Dr. Seuss-
like instead of elegant.
SIDE DISH Valencich
also uses radish reds as
accents with navy and
white for a new
take on
classic nautical.
MUST-KNOW TIP
Valencich offers one
rule for getting this
color right on a wall:
“You must have white
trim.” Natural wood
tones or painted
off-white trim give it
a stuffy Colonial
look rather than a
fresh one. ffl
